Sea and Sun
Over 4,000 km in length, the Spanish littoral offers a unique coastline lapped by the waters of the Mediterranean, the Cantabrian Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. The coasts of eastern and southern Spain washed by the Mediterranean are flat and sandy, those of the north west have beautiful fjord-like inlets, while those of the Cantabrian are rocky and aboind in cliffs.

The Costa de la Luz is the coast of the Atlantic provinces of Cadiz and Huelva, running east-west from windsurfers' paradise Tarifa, near Gibraltar, up to Ayamonte on the opposite side of the Tagus estuary to Portugal. The Costa de la Luz is composed of sand and lime; the rivers flow in channels before reaching the sea; water and earth combine in the swamps, estuaries and salt mines.

The northwestern, Atlantic coast of Spain is one of the great undiscovered areas of Europe. The climate is cooler than the rest of Spain, and the Spanish themselves come here to enjoy the long white sand beaches -- which stretch for many miles -- and an unspoiled rural way of life. The coast still has far more fishing villages than resorts.

The Cantabrian sea is formed by the Green Coast and the Basque Coast.

Green Coast
On the coastal strip (110 kilometres long) there is an abundance of harvest fields, the basis of rural mountain economy and fauna bound to the marine environment with plenty of seagulls and cormorants. The first large place is Comillas, typical summer holiday destination with Modernist buildings.
Other places of interest are Suances and San Vicente de la Barquera. The best view of Santander and its bay which frames it in one of Spain's loveliest panoramas, with wide curving beaches and romantic seafront walks, can be enjoyed from the heights of Peña Cabarga.

Basque Coast
The Cantabrian Sea and the Pyrenees create the backdrop of a landscape composed of all the shades of green, craggy coasts of short estuaries and sierras of Beechwood and Oak trees.
Donostia-San Sebastián, alluring and aristocratic, stretches along and towards the sea between its sheltering headlands.

Baleares is formed by three main islands: Majorca, Minorca, Ibiza (Eivissa) and Formentera, in addition to several small uninhabited islands, amongst which Cabrera, declared National Land and Sea Park, stands out.
The archipelago has become a tourist emporium and the top tourist destination in the western Mediterranean. It hosts an excellent combination of elegant summer holiday centres, coves and beaches, without detracting from the beautiful spots hidden inland on each of the islands.

The seven islands that form the Canarian archipelago are situated just over one thousand kilometres to the south of the Iberian Peninsula and only 115 kilometres off the African coast at the closest point.
Its volcanic origin and special location in the Atlantic provide for unique geological and vegetational features set in a landscape very different to that of both Europe and Africa.
The appeal that the Canaries holds for those that visit the islands, is very much related to the extraordinary climate they enjoy, but also of great importance are the 1,500 kilometres of coastline, magnificent beaches and all types of water sports and entertainment; its exotic subtropical nature is full of such a great variety of volcanoes, forests and spectacular landscapes.
