The Linajes is found down one of the tiny stone streets that crisscross Segovia's quaint old quarter, the barrio of San Esteban, which sits on a hill above the modern city. Known as "The House of the Lineages", the warm-stone and aged-wood façade of the hotel is beautifully preserved from the 11th-century palace of the noble Falconi family, whose escutcheon can still be seen over the arched entryway.
Inside, with the exception of the pleasantly modern bar/cafeteria downstairs, the hotel conserves a charming old-Castile flavor, with dark wood, beamed ceilings and burnished-tile floors. A cosy alcove off the lobby, decorated with wonderful antiques, looks into a glass-enclosed garden patio on one side, and over the open terrace in back, sharing its panoramic views over the city's monumental skyline. |
